The original Red Geisha was actually green…

This sketch became my visual guide to the actual painting a made called the Red Geisha. The inspiration was nothing tangible, just a random idea that popped into my head that formed itself into an image. That process of inspiration is not that common for me but is welcome just the same.

The sketch was the guide for this 15×20inch work of art. I consider this piece mixed media. Polyurethane was used to gloss the hair, hard paper used to create a 3-D effect on the hairsticks, and the hairsticks are adorned with real pieces of jewelery.

This is the first piece of art to inspire a chain of Asian/oriental works to add to the category of Cultural Art. Enjoy!
