Different Types of Art

Kurt SchwittersAbstract Art. Emphasizing lines, colors, generalized or geometrical forms while essentially taking on no actual recognizable shape or object. This is where the art inspires, influences or even exaggerates the emotions of the viewer. Most other forms of art assumes or hints at a preconceived feeling, emotion, or idea much more obviously than abstract art.

Abstract art surrenders itself to each and every unique feeling a viewer may have with no right or wrong. As open to interpretation as this form of art is, the title of the piece usually hints at the artists own feelings at the time it was created. Abstract art reflects emotions and ideas in a way that paintings of realism could not.
Still Life or Random Objects On Pause Art. A work of art depicting mostly inanimate or non-animated random everyday objects, like (food, plants, rocks, shells) or man-made (musical instruments, books, bottles, utensils, shoes, buckets, and so on). For this form of art to be called still life is funny because it is art showing exactly the opposite, spiritless or lifeless objects.

Most common still life pieces tend to be of common household objects and decorations, flowers in a vase, a fruit on the table, fruit baskets, knife cutting cheese or bread. They are usually pieces of art that the viewer can relate to creating a sense of nostalgia or familiarity.
El Greco View of ToledoThe freedom to express! Expressionism is a bit different from abstract art. This is where you would find a distinct object, shape, form, or body (most popular), sometimes being exaggerated, contorted, and or twisted to evoke a desired emotion. An artistic style that tosses all realism out the window, or most of it anyway.

If you as the viewer can get the gist of the emotion the artist was intending, it is a successful work of art. The intention is to have you feel the this piece of art may look, happy, distraught, alone, giddy, at peace, mischievous, confused... The rainbow of emotions is at the tip of an expressionists art brush.
Claude MonetLeaving an impression. The name of this form of art is believed to have come from the tittle of a Claude Monet work, Impression, Sunrise (Impression, Soleil Levant). For a while I could not tell the difference between expressionism and impressionism.

The difference is that impressionist pieces show off the gradual and ever changing effects of light, time and color often in visible brush strokes. This form of art also depicts ordinary subject matter, the inclusion of movement as an important element of human perception and experience, and interesting visual angles.
...or cultura stemming from colere, meaning (to cultivate). A blend of human knowledge, belief, and behavior that spawns from symbolic practices and social learning. The set of shared attitudes, values, goals, and practices that indicates an institution, organization or group.

The form of art however, i decided to add on here as one of my favorite categories. This can easily be classified or expressed as any of the top four categories but i prefer to keep it in its own. Taking a paintbrush picture using mixed media to create a nostalgic piece of work that reflects world behavior and practices, our cultures.
